Worship that fills arenas

Kairo James was raised on the east side of Detroit, in a house where Sunday started on Saturday night with choir rehearsal in the living room. His grandmother directed the choir at a small storefront church, and by nine he was singing lead.

He spent his twenties leading worship at churches across the Midwest, writing songs in the back of a fifteen passenger van and recording them in a church basement. Those songs became First Light, and the first tour sold out rooms of three hundred.

Two albums and a live record later, the rooms are arenas and the band is twelve strong, with a local choir joining on every stop. The plan is the same as it was in the basement: sing what is true, keep the lights pointed past the stage and stay until the last person has gone home.

Kairo lives in Atlanta with his wife and their two sons, and serves on the worship team at his home church whenever he is off the road.
